Mount Washington is one of the smaller hills, which break up the entire Los Angeles basin into hills and valleys. It is located on the eastern edge of the downtown metropolitan area and on the east shore of the Los Angeles River, running north toward the City of Glendale. It was named, many believe, after Colonel Henry Washington, who spent a great deal of time in Southern California in1855 surveying the area. The community of Mount Washington really took off when The Incline Railway reached its summit in May 1909. Now, anyone could reach the Mount Washington Hotel and subdivision. Previously, the only residents on Mount Washington were herds of sheep, the breathtaking view from the hotel brought people to the area in droves.

The Los Angeles region is a terrific place to live, work and raise a family. From the mountains to the beaches, Southern California is home to Disneyland, Hollywood, the Lakers and the Dodgers. You can surf, snow ski and blaze a trail through the desert all in the same day, thanks to the area’s unique geography, which ranges from 10,080-foot Mt. San Antonio to 81 miles of picturesque coastline. Creative expression is this region’s most prolific natural resource and it shows in the variety of fun activities. From the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena to the Hollywood Christmas Parade and Kwanzaa Heritage Festival and Parade — there are a host of activities year-round. The vibrant ethnic mix of Los Angeles adds to the fun. It’s been called the entertainment capital of the world for good reason. Enjoy classic theme parks, thrill rides, movie premieres, beaches, mountains, parks and spectator sports with world champions!
